Tax Attorneys

Tax attorneys are used by millions of people every year. But why should you use one? One of the biggest reasons is the benefit of enjoying attorney-client privilege. A CPA or independent tax preparer can testify against you in court. Tax attorneys are forbidden to testify against a client unless there is a life in danger, a problem that doesn’t come up much in tax law. Tax attorneys can offer you legal advice as they have spent years being trained in tax laws and code. They are more educated than a CPA in current laws. As part of their job they also keep abreast of every change and can tell you when one work in your favor. They can also approach the IRS for you. They deal with the IRS every day, so they aren’t easily intimidated by them. Tax attorneys can help in every aspect of taxes from arbitration to planning.

The Tax Lawyer

The Tax Lawyer is a scholarly journal released five or six times a year by the Section of Taxation of the American Bar Association. It is a tremendous resource for tax attorneys as well as the individual tax preparer. One issue per year focuses strictly on state and local taxes while the other issues cover a more broad range of topics such as: “The Art of Taxation,” the need to implement deductions for aircraft engine maintenance, and health savings accounts. The latest thought on tax law is presented bi-monthly in the pages of The Tax Lawyer.

Los Angeles Tax Lawyer

The Los Angeles area has many tax attorneys. There are a few that stand out as being tops in the field. The first is the office of Burgh, Balian, and Bergstein. They specialize in estate tax audits but can help with all aspects of tax law. They also provide an online tax newsletter to educate their clients. Vic Abajian is an inside man, having previously worked as the senior trial attorney for the IRS. He even represented the IRS Commissioner in front of the United States Tax Court. He represents both individuals and businesses and still has a good relationship with the IRS which is an attraction to many clients. Robert T. Leonard specialized in federal and state taxes. He handles many foreign clients. He also holds positions in the local and state Bar Association tax committees. There are many other tax attorneys in the Los Angeles area that should be able to fill any special needs.
